Nurse-led care, planned around you
Night Care
Care needs can continue overnight. We discuss night-time routines and the assistance required so that you and your family can understand which overnight arrangement may be suitable.
When might overnight care help?
Overnight care may help when a person needs agreed support during the night or reassurance as part of their night-time routine. The key planning question is whether occasional assistance is suitable or whether a carer needs to remain awake. Assessment helps clarify the expected support and the arrangement that may be appropriate.
Support during the night
Depending on the assessed plan and agreed staffing, overnight support may include:
Bedtime routines
Help with agreed personal care and settling for the night, following the person's preferences and care plan.
Support when up overnight
Assistance with agreed personal care or mobility needs when the person wakes, within the selected night-care arrangement.
Reassurance and company
A calm response to agreed night-time needs, with the care plan setting out how carers should respond and who to contact if concerns arise.
Medication arrangements
Night-time medication support only when assessed, agreed in the medication records and within the carer's training and competence.
Morning handover
Relevant observations or concerns are recorded and handed over through the agreed communication arrangements.
All support is subject to assessment, the agreed care plan and our carers' training and competence. Additional activities must fit safely within the agreed visit time without displacing essential care.
Choosing a suitable night arrangement
Sleeping-night support
The carer is able to sleep and may provide agreed assistance if needed. This arrangement is suitable only when the expected pattern of support allows for rest.
Waking-night support
The carer remains awake to provide the agreed support during the night. We discuss the person's needs and whether this arrangement is available.
Clear expectations
Before care starts, we agree the expected tasks, staffing, rest or waking arrangements, reporting contacts and what to do if needs change.
Planning night care
Describe the night-time needs
Tell us what usually happens overnight, how often help is needed, what support is requested and the preferred start date.
Assess the expected support
We discuss the person's needs, relevant risks, home arrangements and whether sleeping-night or waking-night care may be appropriate.
Agree the night plan
We confirm the tasks, staffing arrangement, costs, contacts and escalation guidance before care is scheduled.
Review the arrangement
If the pattern of night-time support changes, contact us so we can review whether the current plan remains suitable.
Overnight records and handover
Carers record the agreed support, relevant observations and concerns from the night. Medication support is documented in the appropriate record. The plan identifies who should be contacted and how an urgent concern should be escalated.

What is the difference between sleeping-night and waking-night care?
With sleeping-night care, the carer is able to sleep and provides only the agreed level of assistance if needed. With waking-night care, the carer remains awake to provide planned support. Assessment helps determine which arrangement may be suitable.
Does sleeping-night care mean the carer can respond all night?
Sleeping-night care includes rest for the carer and is not continuous awake monitoring. If frequent or sustained awake support is expected, we discuss whether waking-night care is needed.
What can a night carer help with?
Tasks depend on the assessed needs and agreed care plan. They may include bedtime routines and agreed assistance during the night. We confirm the scope before visits begin.
Can medication be supported overnight?
Only where the support has been assessed and agreed in the care plan and medication records, and is within the carer's training and competence.
Can night care be combined with daytime visits?
We can discuss a package that includes daytime support as well as overnight care. The schedule and staffing depend on assessment and availability.
How much does night care cost?
Charges depend on whether sleeping-night or waking-night support is agreed, the tasks required and the schedule. We explain the proposed costs before you decide.
How soon can overnight visits start?
We confirm a start date after discussing the person's needs, the night arrangement, staffing and availability. Contact us with your preferred timing to begin the conversation.
